“Bitcoin is a swarm of cyber hornets serving the goddess of wisdom, feeding on the fire of truth, exponentially growing ever smarter, faster, and stronger behind a wall of encrypted energy.”
The year was 2008. The world was recovering from the Global Financial Crisis of 2007-08, and people had lost faith in the currency controlled and manipulated by central banks.
It was when the Bitcoin white paper first showed up. The word and the concept were new, and no one cared about what it was. Now, the words ‘cryptocurrency’ and ‘bitcoin’ are in every individual’s mind.. and perhaps wallet. Millions of people use it to make purchases, and millions have made a fortune out of it by simply storing it, so much so that there are Bitcoin Billionaires.
Also, how can we forget Laszlo Hanyecz? He bought two large Papa John’s pizzas for 10,000 bitcoins back in 2010. If that guy would’ve held onto that many bitcoins, he would’ve been worth $160 million (assuming $16,000 per bitcoin that it costs on its 14th birthday)!
The question is, though, who is behind this breakthrough technology?
The answer starts with a pseudonymous name Satoshi Nakamoto. We don’t know who is behind this name. It can be a person, a group, some conspiracy theory, or we may have just given it as a label to our fantasies.
Bitcoin came to life when Nakamoto published his famous white paper in October 2008. Nakamoto created Bitcoin, allegedly intending to wrest control of currency from financial elites and put it in the hands of the masses. Bitcoin is open source, meaning its design is public. No one person owns or controls Bitcoin, and anyone can participate. This idea was revolutionary and gave birth to a new set of technologies that followed the footsteps of the research paper published by Nakamoto.
Though Bitcoin started at 0.0001 USD, its present value is 16,690 USD (at the time of publishing this article). The possibilities of Bitcoin are endless. A few countries have officially adopted it as legal tender, and it is growing in popularity and acceptance.
The creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, just appeared out of nowhere and launched the first cryptocurrency. On April 23, 2011, he sent a farewell email to a fellow Bitcoin developer.
He has not been heard from since. Why he did that is an equally praiseworthy move.
